The oldest reference to the Algueña designation appears in a manuscript from Alcoy from 1470, although primacy should be given to the Alcoy citation of 1361, in which the spelling “Campo de Alhenya” appears. Since the 16th Century, the existence of Moorish landowners who cultivated these lands, has been confirmed. For centuries, residents of Novelda came in search of pasture and firewood to make charcoal. The Parish Church dedicated to the Saint Patrons of the Villa "Abdón y Senén", was built in 1738.
In 1934, Algueña was established as an independent municipality, together with La Solana district. At present, Algueña is twinned with the Doganella di Ninfa, dependent on the Italian municipalities of Sermoneta and Cisterna di Latina. This commitment was signed on May 1st, 2004.
In Calpe you can observe the trace of a journey through different civilizations while you explore the streets of a typical fishing village.
Discover the findings from the Bronze Age and Iberian times in the Calp History Museum and learn more about the Romans at the site of “the Bath of the Queen”, one of the most important archaeological sites in its category in all of Roman Hispania. Due to its importance and wealth, the medieval town of Ifach is also represented in the museum.
Elche has become one of the few cities in the world that has three properties registered in the different categories of UNESCO World Heritage: the Palm Grove, which, with more than 200,000 palm trees, is the largest in Europe; the Misteri d'Elx, Cultural Heritage Intangible, as well as the Traditional Culture Center “Puçol School Museum”. Universally known is the Lady of Elche, one of the most famous sculptural works of the world.
The 326 square kilometers of the municipal area offer a great variety of landscapes and habitats. Camp d'Elx, as the protagonist, makes up a rich mosaic of traditional homes. The Elche wetlands constitute one of the most relevant groups in the Valencian Community.
To savor Elche's gastronomy there is a wide range of restaurants in the city and in Camp d'Elx, that offer everything from the most traditional to the most avant-garde cuisine.
The valley has as a backdrop, to the south, the magnificent silhouette of the Sierra de Crevillente (la Vella 835 m.) with its lush shade covered with pine forests, while the majestic Sierra de l'Algaiat (Peña la Mina, 1053 m.) is the one that closes and protects the valley to the north, emerging from its high peaks over the rural landscape of almonds, olive trees and vineyards.
Traditionally, agriculture has been the source of wealth, since there are 1,200 hectares. irrigated areas dedicated to the production of fruit trees and table grapes with the designation of origin “Uva de Mesa Embolsada Vinalopó”.
In the town, the Plaza de la Villa stands out, where the town hall building is located, of great tourist interest for its clock tower. Also of great relevance are the typical constructions of Hondón de las Nieves: its cave houses, some of them very well preserved and rehabilitated, which are located at the end of Calle Mayor.
Monóvar is located to the west of the province, 34 km from Alicante and 153 km from Valencia, more specifically in the Middle Vinalopó region, which takes its name from the river that runs through its municipal area. Convering an area of 152 km², Monóvar borders Salinas and Villena to the north, Novelda and La Romana to the south; Elda to the east and Pinoso to the west.

Pinoso (El Pinós) is a small municipality located inland in the province of Alicante. It belongs to the Medio Vinalopóregion, where rainfed crops grow such as vineyards, olive trees, almonds etc. Its history as a town takes us back yo a commemorative date: February 12th, 1826, when, according to the Royal Commission and Privilege Certificate of Villazgo issued by Fernando VII, it received the title of "Real Villa", separating itsef from Monóvar.
At present, although many people in El Pinós still make their living from rainfed vines, olives and almonds, there are also many who base their economy on the shoe and furniture industries, besides a frenzied mining activity, based on the exploitation of marble limestone and rock salt.
The municipality of Salinas is located in the northwest of the province of Alicante, in the Medio Vinalopó region and it has a surface area of 61.9 square kilometers. Its most outstanding feature is its location in an endemic basin, meaning a landlocked aquifer, surrounded by a mountainous area that reaches a height of 1,100 metres. Salinas is surrounded by a relief formed by The Sierra de Salinas, the Rincón de Don Pedro, the Sierra de la Umbría, the Sierra de Cabrera and the Sierra de Cámara.
At present, the Salinas lagoon has practically dried up, in part due to workmanship carried out to this end in the mid-20th century. A drainage canal was built since, throughout history, the lagoon was considered to be a source of unhealthy conditions.
Sant Joan d'Alacant is located in the heart of the region of l'Alacantí, so it is close to the beach, close to the mountains, close to the capital, Alicante, and close to great destinations like Benidorm, Dénia, Torrevieja or Xàbia.
The history of the town is directly related to the Alicante orchard and the fruits of the vine that, over the years, have inherited an important material and immaterial heritage, for which it is known as the cradle of Fondillón, one of the five EU luxury wines. A wine born among sharecroppers in Sant Joan that was created thanks to the fruit of Monastrell vines grown at sea level.
Sant Joan d'Alacant is one of the ten tourist destinations in the province of Alicante with the highest ratio of hotel capacity, a total of 1,129 beds. More and more and visitors choose Sant Joan as their resting place.
Sax is located on the south face of a large rock crowned by a unique castle that defines the urban profile. Sax is part of the Alto Vinalopó region, bordering Elda, Petrer, Castalla, Biar, Villena and Salinas. It covers an area of 63 km2 and an altitude of 471 meters above sea level, which make it a strategic communications hub since ancient times. It was traversed by Roman roads, Arab roads and Christian routes.
Sax is currently located on the communications axis between the coast and the plateau. Both, the Mediterranean highway and the railway that connects Madrid to Alicante, take advantage of this natural corridor.
Located on the north of the Costa Blanca, and with an annual average temperature of 23º, Teulada-Morairais characterized by providing the best of both, the coast and inland. Its two main cities, Teulada and Moraira, are defined by terraced landscapes of winding valleys that open to the Mediterranean Sea; offering beautiful beaches and coves along 8km of coastline bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, which determines the friendly and welcoming character of our people.
An unrivaled destination for those who want to enjoy the sun and the sea, and for those who want to discover our history and traditions, and above all, for those who seek the experience of taste: unique dishes and wines made with the fruits of Roman Muscat vines that, influenced by the Mediterranean breeze and sheltered by the mountains that surround us, produce sweet grapes that are bursting with aromas.
The valley (La Vall) de Pop connects to the Xaló river route, which begins in Castell de Castells and runs through several towns such as Benigembla, Murla, Parcent and Alcalalí. At this point, the valley opens up and we find the municipalities of Xaló, Llíber, Senija and Benissa on the coast.
La Vall de Pop is a land of contrasts: imposing mountain ranges such as Serrella, Cavall Verd, Serra del Penyal de Laguar, El Carrascar and Coll de Rates, Ferrer or Bèrnia; sinuous ravines through which the Xaló river and its tributaries flow, steep coastline valleys, cozy coves and vineyard aromas.
La Vall holds an important heritage to be discovered: the vestiges of the Islamic period, the dry-stone architecture, shelters containing World Heritage cave paintings, museums, trails, walks that hide unique corners as well as an important wine culture and gastronomic identity; everything a traveler needs to live a unique experience.
Villena has a privileged location in the northwest of the Alicante province, which forms a crossroads between the Castilian plain and the Mediterranean coast. This fact has shaped its history and its rich heritage: the legacy of Bronze Age people, Muslim culture and feudal lords such as Don Juan Manuel, author of Count Lucanor, or the famous Marquis of Villena, the Pacheco family.
We should also add a generous natural environment to everything aforementioned where one may participate in all kinds of outdoor activities; as well as the local wines and the gastronomy inspired by its fertile orchards. To culminate, the traveler can also take part in its festivals and traditions, such as Moors and Christians.
